A Winey Parent Thanksgiving
We were supposed to go to my sister-in-law’s family’s house for Thanksgiving last year. We were going to go with my parents, my brother and his family, but that did not happen. Unfortunately, Adelaide “decided” to throw up the night before and we knew we weren’t going anywhere. So, we had a nice quiet family dinner at home.
What We’re Thankful For
What’s most amazing is that last year’s meal was put together from generous neighbors, my parents, and a quick trip to the grocery store. Thank goodness for grocery stores that are open on Thanksgiving Day – we recognize you and appreciate that you are at work instead of with your own families. We didn’t have time (or the desire to make a turkey for just us), so we picked up a rotisserie chicken, rolls, and cranberry sauce. My wonderful neighbors, who have sadly moved away since, brought over some side dishes to accompany our chicken. My mom also donated some side dishes to the cause and we had more than enough food for our family of four.
Thanksgiving Plans
This year, we have decided to not really travel again. It was so nice and relaxing to stay home, aside from the sick kid! We will be having Thanksgiving dinner at my parent’s house, aka our second home. They live about 5 minutes away, and always open their door to us. We will feast on the usual suspects. There will be turkey, cranberries, stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, rolls, green beans, salad, and of course, pumpkin pie! And don’t forget the wine. Of course there will be wine!
